Whinhill Lock Opening - 25/06/2005
Early the week before, several boats were lifted from North Frodingham, and placed in the water at River Head, in Driffield. On Saturday, the Mayor of Driffield, travelled down the canal to Whinhill Lock on Moonsearcher. A convoy of other boats followed. A ribbon was cut at Whinhill Lock, and a boat taken through the lock so people could see it working.
On Sunday, three small boats left Driffield, and reached the top of the lock at Wansford. Along the tree-lined straight between Whinhill and Wansford a tree had fallen, but attempts to removed it failed. However it had sunk under the water enough to scrape the small boats over the top of it to continue on the journey. Later that evening the boats were crained out of the water, to be taken back to the main navigable section of the canal.
